DaepungheonHave you heard about Sutoje? This was the Joseon era administrative system that sent naval forces to Uleungdo Island and Dokdo Island on patrol. These naval forces were called Sutosa. One site where the Sutosa waited for the sea to calm when sailing to Uleungdo Island was Daepungheon, Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do.Let’s go to Daepungheon together, the place to wait for the seas to calm and winds to become favorable.Remains that are a repository of history! Follow me to Daepungheon, Uljin.Take National Road No. 7 and drive with the cool breeze along the east coast to arrive at Gusan-ri!Get out of your car and find the big sign! Head to the alley toward the residential area. Enter the alley, and you can see Daepungheon!Impressive Daepungheon, with its red columns that contrast against the blue sky! This was once an ordinary house with a straight structure and hip and gable roof in the past, but has been restored to its present appearance. The ancient documents Sutojeolmok and Wanmun were found during restoration. The documents said that when Sutosa stayed in Daepungheon for a long time, the 9 villages around shared the expenses for their stay. These shared expenses were a hardship for the villagers, who lodged a complaint with the Pyeonghae governor. The documents included the response from the governor. The contents of the documents definitely prove that Korea managed Uleungdo and Dokdo from the beginning of the history. Daepungheon, with its significant meaning and value, is a small and simple structure. View the foaming waves from Daepungheon, and you will gain understanding of the Sutosa, who waited for favorable winds to sail to Uleungdo and Dokdo.Uljin has been making every endeavor to maintain Daepungheon and Sutosa, including a reproduction of a Sutosa voyage, and a yacht race along the sea routes of the Sutosa. Small but significant Daepungheon, with the truth of history.Promise to visit Daepungheon when you visit Uljin!
