Buryeongsa

Buryeongsa Temple is located in 48 (122, Hawon-ri ) Buryeonggyegok-ro, Geumgangsong-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is located at the beginning of the Buryeongsa valley before turning over the Taebaek mountain range along National Route 36 in Uljin to Bonghwa direction. As the valley is beautiful, the Buddhist temple is as gorgeous as it is, but it is a cozy, old-fashioned and neat temple of Silla dynasty, and especially it is a Buddhist temple with only female monks. The original name of the Buryeongsa was Bulguisa, The Dictionary of Korean Buddhist temples still has the legend of them, whish is still being reported.

Buryeongsa has as many cultural assets as its long history. The designated cultural properties are Eungjinjeon Hall of Buryeongsa Temple (Treasure No. 730), Daeungbojeon Hall of Buryeongsa Temple (Treasure No. 1201), Stupa of Yangseongdang (1696, Cultural Property No. 162), and Buryeongsa Temple Bulpae (1678, Gyeongsangbuk-do tangible cultural property No. 398). In the order of the designated cultural properties, the contraction exhibition of Eungjinjeon hall is a three-chambered front and two side-chambers, with a pillar-less structure inside the building. There are traces of a porch underneath the cabin of the front, an example of installing a floor in a Buddhist temple can be seen in the Taeung-Jon Hall and Pongjong-sa Temple for and so on.

Seongnyugul Cave (Natural Monument No.155)

Seongnyugul Cave is a limestone cave located in Gusan-ri, Geunnam-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk. It is at the shore of the west side of Geunnam-myeon, Seongnyubong. Water resourced from Subi, Yeongyang-gun confluences with Maehwacheon, flows in front of the cave. Meeting up with spa at Buryeong Valley forming Wangpicheon, flows to East Sea where there is Manngyangjeong Pavilion. Seongnyugul Cave is called by such name due to the meaning "attaining Buddhahood." Also was called by the name 'Seongnyugul', 'Taengcheongul' and 'Jangcheongul.' Seongnyugul Cave's oddly shaped limestones seemed like seeing Geumgang Mountain, therefore was also called 'Underground Geumgang.' It is presumed to be a cave of 250 million years old, and it has a total length of 870 meters from north to south.

The maximum square is 18m wide, 25m long, 40m high, the water depth is usually 4-20m and the temperature is 15 ~ 17 ℃, there isn't much change during the year. It was designated as a Natural Monument No. 155 in 1963. Was set as capital by crown prince Bocheon, son of King Sinmun of Silla, and was passed down as strange story of Kim-Changheup, Poem of Maewoldang, "Gwandongyugi" of Igok at the end of Koryeo Dynasty. Hupo Port (Star Couple Show Filming Site), Jukbyeon Port

Operates passenger ship Uljin(Hupo~Ulleung)

Hupo Port is the center of snow crab where the Uljin snow crab Festival (from the end of February to the beginning of March) is held, enjoying the full meaty snow crab,feeling the enthusiasm of the festival, and recently, it is spotlighted as a filming site of a Star Couple Show-Jagiya, which is airing in popularity. Bamboo forests and lighthouses lined up along the ridge line and the beautiful Jukbyeon port that spread across the East Sea, and fresh snow crab can be enjoyed during the period from December to May, which constantly brings people to attraction.

Wolsongjeong Pavilion (Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong)

A palace first buillt in Koryeo Dynasty, was newly built in form of 1980s, stela was written by former president Choi Kyu-Hah. There are two stories on where the name of Wolsongjeong Pavilion is derived from, either from the meaning of the pine tree or the meaning that the taoist god is flying over the pine tree. During the Joseon Dynasty, King Seongjong of Joseon ordered an artist to draw the pavilion with most beautiful scenery, and Wolsongjeong was drawn. This is how beautiful Wolsongjeong Pavilion is, being one of the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong.

Mangyangjeong Pavilion (Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong)

Mangyangjeong Pavilion, one of the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong, was originally located on the seaside hill of Giseong-myeon, Mangyang-ri, but was moved to the shore of Mangyang-ri Hyeonjong Mountain by Chae Sinbo, saying the Mangyangjeong on seashore hill was old and worn out, during the rule of Sejong the Great of Joseon. After, during 1518(Jungjong of Joseon 13) Allyeomsa Yoonhui-In asked Pyeonghae Governor Kim Saewoo to repair the Mangyangjeong Pavilion which was fell down due to the storm in 1517, and moved it to Guennam-myeon Sanpo-ri Dunsan-dong, current location, by Uljin governor Lee Hui-Ho, cooperated with Military Monk Lim Hak-Young during 1860(Cheoljong of Joseon 11).

After, the old worn out pavilion due to wind and rain for a long time, with a help of Uljin-gun, government·province expenditures from Uljin Education Office and help of local residents, the completely fallen castle on September 1959, the gun cleaned up and repaired it during 1979, and was repaired again on September 1994, with business expenses of 91.1 million won. Mangyangjeong Pavilion is built on the hill where you can see the bounless expanses of water at a glance, along the Wangpicheon flowing in front of Seongnyugul Cave. King Sukjong of Joseon bestowed handwritten frame that says "GwandongJaeillu", meaning the scenery is the best among the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong. Poems personally written by King Sukjong and Jeongjo called 'Eojesi', Jeongchu's 'Mangyangjeongsi', and Jeongcheol's 'Gwandongbyeolgokcho', Chaesu's 'Mangyangjeonggi‘ etc is passed down.
