Wangpicheon
Seongnyugul Cave, the natural limestone cave designated as the Natural Monument No. 155, is located on the Seonyusan, where 870 meters long wangpicheon flows through. The Seongnyugul Cave name comes from a number of origins, most notably the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 of the Chosun dynasty. When foreign enemy invaded, the villagers moved the Buddha status in front of the cave into the cave, and it was said that the holy Buddha was in the cave, therefore called the cave Seongnyugul. At this time, the sad story of 500 people of the villagers who escaped with the Buddha statue are told that the entrance to the temple was blocked by the enemy and villagers starved to death in the cave.
Also, according to The Heritage of the Three States, crown prince Bocheon, son of the Sinmun of Silla, recited Dharani Parati-sara, and cave god was influced by Buddhism.
There is also a story that the cave is called Seongnyugul because crown prince Bocheon, the nature of Buddha, stayed in the cave.

In addition, the Seongnyugul Caveis scattered throughout the works left by our ancestors. Igok, the Korean scholar at the end of Koryeo period, recorded his expedition, the first cave expedition of Korea, in the "Gwandongyugi", Maewoldang Kim, Siseup as a poem, Gyeomjae Jeong Seon as a painting. The peom Maewoldang Kim Siseup wrote during the night of his stay in the Seongnyugul Cave is as followed.

You must wear a protective helmet to get into the cave. Because it is not a building made for human movement, it is easy to bump or injure your head. You have to tuck your waist carefully into the narrow door that you can pass through. The entrance and exit are the same place, but the scene you see when you enter and the scene you see when you exit are very different from each other, therefore it is not boring, but is inspired by its mystery
The first square to be encountered first is the Yeonmudong Stone Room. It is said that the ancestors practiced martial arts training. It is also a sad place where residents who fled during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 died.
Unlike the narrow entrance, the strange products that have been made for 250 million years in the spacious space spread out in the inside, makes one exclaim.
Several tens of meters of stalactites are hanging from the ceiling several times higher than my height, and stone stalagmites and towering stalagmites in every direction make me feel the wonders and fears of nature.

Continue to explore the underground world up to the 12th Square and admire the mysterious beauty that has created for a long time. The second square, which faces after passing the Ojak Bridge, is called the galaxy, and has water in a depth of 1m.
The third square is Maitreya. It is named after a stalagmite grows in the square that looks like Maitreya Bodhisattva.
The minds are devoted to the stone that is supposed to have been created for tens of thousands of years. The fourth square is said to be called a pagoda because stalactite and stalagmite look like a big tower.
Looking at the strange artifacts in the dark, damp space, walking through the seongnyugul cave ruins, you will have many imaginations. Batman, Harry Potter, and other famous scenes of the movie come to mind, so children and adults also stimulate imagination and curiosity. We hope that this precious space of 250 million years worth of time will be an exciting sightseeing place, educational place and experience place forever.
